CORN EXCHANGE.
The following is from the report for the week ending Friday, fckspt. 23 :— The pant week haa been but a. repetition of its predecessor. Little or no business is doing, and there is not, at present any signs of a revival. The weather, meantime, is all that could be desired, although some parts of Canterbury are said to be suffering from drought. Wheat—Good milling samples are worth •4s 6d to ie 9d per bushel f.o.k ;"second
quality, 4s to 4s 3d per bushel f.o.b. ; chide wheat, 2* 9d to 3s 3d per bushel in Ghristchurch.
Oats—The market has dragged very nniL'li, and prices may be quoted a shade easier. Good stunt milling , . 2s 2d to 2s 3d per I ■uk|-,pl fob. ; feed quality. Is 10*1 to Is lid per bushel, delivered in Christcbuich.
Barley—The increased demand which has been apparent for some little time back is still maintained, but of the quality sought for, viz, good to prime malting, there is really not much to be had. This quality barley will find ready buyers from 2s 9d to 3s 4d per bushel; second class malting is heavy of sale, indeed, is almost entirely neglected ; prices nominal Feed samples are worth from Is 9d to 2s per bushel, delivered in Christchurch. Potatoes—There is not much to report upon in this article of produce beyond the leporled rise of 10s per ton in the Sydney market. Holders aie sanguine that this may be the forerunner of still greater improvemenf. Business in the meantime is at a standstill. Piices nominal. Grass Seed —Not much business has been transacted during the week. Well cleaned samples are wortli from 5s Gd to 5s 9d per bushel ; cocksfoot, 3|d to 3f d per lh. Cheese and Butter—The former is worth from 3d to 3£rl per lb. The latter, new keg butter is worth 7d per lb, ; old keg buttei ia almost, unsaleable.
