AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of this Board was held on tho above date at tbeir office, Duvaucbelle's Bay, Present — Messrs Chappell (in the chair) Williams and Shadbolt. Tbe object of the meeting was to consider the question of regracling the Wainui Pass road. Besides the members of tbe Board, several of the settlers interested in the question were in attendance, including Messrs Anson, Wabnesley, Perham, Bates, McKay, McPhail, Wright, and Niblett. Mr Anson produced a letter from the chief surveyor in which tbat gentleman offered to have the road regraded from the Wainui Pass to the western boundary of section 10,G-:.2, on condition that the Road Board also agreed to continue the road so laid out through section 10,6-12. As the grants for tho sections might be asked for any day, be suggested that no time should be lost in taking the necessary steps. Mr Anson strongly urged tbe Board to agree at any rate to grade aud reserve a road through the lower sections, in order to secure the good grade offered by the Government in the upper part, Mr Williams did not see bow tho Board could commit itself to tbe expenditure required for fencing. Mr Anson urged that it would not be necessary to fence or bench tbe road at present, but merely to secure the line. After a considerable amount of desultory conversation tbe meeting terminated withany resolution being arrived at. The Board then proceeded with its ordinary business. -NTKHV-EWS. Mr D. Curry attended to complain about tbe state of the road near bis place, which was being washed away by the creek. Mr Barwick was instructed to have it attended to. Mr J. Wright asked some assistance towards erecting a bridge on tbe road near tbe Education Reserve, at Wainui. Il tbe Board would have a biidge constructed of rough timber, be would find timber and bullocks for hauling material. The Clerk was instructed to visit and report. Mr A. McPhail came to complain about tho Mount Bossu road through Rhodes' Fiat. The Chairman said the matter was only awaiting Mr Rhode..' signature to a deed. Tiie Board could do no more iv the matter. Mr McPhail thought the delay did depend upon tbe Board, and intimated his intention to write to Mr Rhodes on tbe, matter. Mr Tizzard wanted lo know what the Board were going to do about his bridge. Tbe matter was left in the hands of the Clerk. Tiie Cleik was instructed to call for tenders for the maintenance of roads, am! the Board adjourned.
