AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD ROARD.

A meeting , of this Board was held on • the above date at their offices, Duvaii • cliellc's Bay. Present—Messrs Chappell, (in the chair), McDonald and Shadbolt. The minutes of the previous meeting , were read and confirmed. ' INTICHVIKWS. Mr Tizzard was in attendance to enquire • as to what the Board intended to do in the matter of a culvert promised at the pre- : vious meeting. Postponed till a later period or! the meeting. Mr Kennedy complained nhout the state of a portion of the Mount Bossu road at Wainui between the jetty and Mr Perham's , house. Tho Clerk was instructed to have the necessary repairs effected. Mr Checkley was also in attendance to remind the Board of what they had. promised to do to the road near his place. Mr Checkley said it appeared as if, as long as he was willing to do any work himself on this road the Board would not object. Mr Shadbolt—"They would be very foolish if they did." The Board promised to have the work tendered for. and a!so to lot Mr Checklcy have some drnin pipes, already promised. Mr \V. McKay came to complain of tho state of the Little Akalon Summit road. The Clerk >vas instructed to visit and report prior to next meeting , . Mr Sullivan attended to state, that, he and his partner had done the work which Mr Barwick had instructed them to do on the main loads. The question of payment was held over. Mr Anson attended to ask the Board to have the Wainui P;iss road diverted, so as to improve the grade. Mr McDonald explained that it would he necessary to go through Mr Walmsley's land. Mr Walmsley was willing to a>l low this, and agree to an exchange of roads. Mr Anson explained thsit it would save. 1 the Board a great deal of expense to do it. now, as all the upper part of (he land was not as yet crown granted, and tho Survey Office was willing to re-survey those sections, and alter tins line. The Chairman thought that they should ■ not, deal with the question until they had ' a full meeting. Mr Shadbolt suggested that a special meeting be held is , , a week to consider the 1 question, and that, in the meanwhile the , parties interested to be requested to attend. . It was agreed that the work be done over ag^in. From Messrs Allan and Worn!, Little' River, asking the Board to expend some ironey in benching [he ro-id Ic.ding (o their property. The Clerk wes instructed to visit and report on the !ii-'ifter. From the County Council, enclosing a loiter from the Crown Lands Olli.e, stating that the Government had no objection to the erection of a pound on the road reserve, though theie was no power to change its purpose. From the same, declining to entertain J the Board's request to repair the bridges in Duvauchelle's Bay. FIN'AXCX. The Clerk laid his Financial Statement on the table. Tt appeared iluit there was a sum of £2H2 2s G.I due to the contractors for road maintenance. Mr MeDoiia d Ihoughr the Collector should make a house to house visitation, and get in the large ammount due for rates ; it was vory hard that the contractors .should be kept out of their money because people held back iron) p}ing the small sums due from each. The Collector said he. was constantly about, buthe would see wli-it he could do. Mr McDonald hoped the Press would take notice of his remarks. If the rates did not come in more freely it would be necessary to take some ferther steps in tho matter. PAYMENTS. The following accounts wore passed for payment : —W. Jones, progress payment £30, J. Barwick £8 Gs 81, B. MiadUjlt. stationery 17s. J. linllock ii 24 15-i, J. ■ Shadbolt £7 10s, J. Curry £12 12s GI. The last three accounts were fifty per cent on amounts due lor road maintenance. The Clerk was instructed to call upon the contractor ldr the Long Bay road to complete tie w. >rk required on it : otherwise the Board wou.'d have the work done at his risk. Tho Clerk was instructed to call tenders for certain works, and the Board adjourned til! iSiturday, July 2. a special meeting io be held in the meanwhile next Saturday.
