"XTOTICE is hereby given that, in _I_\| pursuance of the above Acts, the Quarterly Meeting of the Licensing Commissioners for tiro districts of Akaroa and Wainui, Pigeon Bay, Okain's Bay, and Little River will be held on TUESDAY, the 7th day of June next, at the hour of 12 o'clock noon, in the Resident Magistrate's Court, Akaroa, for the purpose of considering applications under the said Acts. SCHOLARSHIPS. ■"\J~OTICE is hereby given that Ten _LN Scholarships of the annual value of Forty Pounds each, and tenable for two years, will be awarded upon examination in the month of June next as follows :— (a) Two scholarships open to all children whose age does not exceed eleven years on the first day of June, 1881. (b) Two scholarships open to all whose age does not exceed twelve years on the first of June. (c) Two scholarships open to all whose age does not exceed thirteen years on the first of June. (d) Two scholarships open to all whose age does not exceed fourteen years on the first of June. And two scholarships to be applied to the three classes, a, b, and c, according to the respective merits of the candidates in those classes. Candidates must enter their names by giving notice in their own handwriting to the Chairman of the Board, on or before the tenth day of May next, in nvery case stating the day and year of birth, and the school at which the candidate is receiving instruction. The Board will not publish the name of the school from which a candidate comes without the consent of the principal teacher of the school, which may be sent with the notice of entry. Any candidate not attending school must give his or her address. The Board reserves tie right of acquiring proof as to age. The examination will be held at Christchurch, beginning on Tuesday, the seventh day of June, for classes (a), (b), and (c), and on Tuesday, the fourteenth day of June, for class (d). Necessary expenses ot travelling, and of board and lodging, will be defrayed by the Board. The subjects in which candidates in classes (a), (b), and (c) will be examined are the following : —Reading, writing, spelling, English grammar and composition, geography, British his'ory, and elementary science. The subjects for class (d) are as follows :—Arithmetic, English grammar and composition (including spelling), physical and political geography, and history (ancient and modern), geometry, algebra, and elementary science. A scholarship will not be awarded to any candidate who has not obtained 25 per cent, of the possible number of marks in each subject, and 50 per cent, of the possible total. J. V. IN accordance with clause 46 of "The Counties Act, 1876," I hereby give notice that the Electoral Roll 1881-82 for the County of Akaroa is open for inspection at the Council Chambers, Duvauchelle's Bay ; and also that copies of the above-mentioned Roll for the different Ridings are open or inspection at the following places to the 15th clay of May next :— WAINUI RIDING —At the fcchoolhouse, Wainui. BERARD RIDING—At the Borough Council Chambers, Akaroa. LE BON'S BAY RIDING— At the Schoolhouse, Le Bon's Bay. OKAIN'S BAY RIDING—At Mr Hubbard's Store, Little Akaloa. PIGEON BAY RIDING—At the Road Board Office, Pigeon Bay. PORT LEVY RIDING—At the Schoolhouse, Port Levy. PORT VICTORIA RIDINGAt Mr W. Gray's residence, Governor's Bay. TAI TAPI7 RIDING—At Mr Forbes'""Store, Tai Tfipu. LITTLE RIVER RIDING— At Mr Joblm's Store, Little River.
