A PRACTICAL JUKE.
The humorous ci ntributor to the Sydney Mall has llie following in a recent issue : —It was a good practical joke, of which the principal constituents were a ImcKct of liquid whiting, ami an ordinary whitewash brush flii'l the locality was somewhero on the.sotithern coast. There was an agricultural ahow or a nice meeting , , which was followed hy a dinner, to which .ill tire loading uw-n <'f the district had come. To further enliven the proceeding-, a circus troupe whs in the town. The leading men for the greater part came to the feast on horses and these, special permission having been obtained, wen; turned into a good puddock. There were b.'iyu, browns, and blneks, and th".-c, wh le the owners wcro feasting by 111 - * aid of the whitewash before mentioned, some wag converted into pie anil skey bulls. Midnight had rome befoie the last toast w.ih responded to, and nil hand* sought their horses to take flight. The paddock w.is_ reached, and in the dim light each man with bridle on arm, sought his tru-ty sfoed. So many hard words were never before utt red in the district when the universal verdk-t was declared, the circus men had lei out (he rexi(tinlx* horses and turned in their 'own. The owner of the paddock, who whs one of [he banqueters, whs more, irah: than any of the lot, and Witrnlly secondi d the umlion, th.it every horse of the Jut should be put in pound—and pounded they were. Daylight brought headaches and nrogivings, and never were pound-fees paid with less cheerfulness. The general desire now in that district is to learn who is the- local Landseer.
