(Written expressly for The Akaroa Mail) GARDEN MEMORANDA FOR THE ' .'MONTH OF APRIL. KITCHEN OAHDEN. Now that there is a littlo moisture to start them, plant early cabbage for spring use, and sow seeds of cabbage, cauliflower, etc., at the late sow turnips, if they dont come to much, they will keep down weeds, and those who prefer autumn sown onions, had better get them in at once. Choose a piece of ground as clean from weeds as possible, and see that it is well worked up. A lew Eschlots planted now will be useful to cut green. Lettuce, radish, mustard, and cross may still be sown. FRUIT GARDEN. Pruned trees will now require fastening to encourage the ripening of the wood and secure them from the effects of the wind. Gather ripe fruit, and avoid bruising. Plant strawberriis, and if not done before, remove runners from established beds, and keep all. free from weeds. Those who intend planting fruit trees will do well to have a good heap ot compost ready, some fine mould put round the roots when planting, will generally ensure succeeds if the ground has been previously well prepared. Ft.OWEP.Y.AItDK-J. Rooted cuttings of verbenas, geraniums, etc., may now be potted off, using light well, prepared soil, and small sized pots, protect them from heavy rain until they are well established in tho pots. See that dahlias and hollyhocks, are well secured to the stakes, (rather flower seeds, and clear awa)- decaying annuals and other flower slalk . It ; tho ground be sufficiently moist, fiower r.>ot. may be divided and replanted in freshly dug ground. This is a &ood time for planting gum trees.
