GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
A fairly active tone has pervaded the grain maiket during the past week, and the sales reported are considerably above the late weekly average. Wheat.—Tuscan, of good quality, is worth 3s 8d to 3s 9d f.o.b. at Lyttelton, nnd other description.;, 3s Gd to 3s 7d. Medium samples command a trifle less. Chick wheat ranges from ls 9d to 2s 9.1. nccoiding lo the brokenness of the grain. Oats are sel ing at ls Gd to ls 7d for milling descriptions, and the demand fairly ab-orbs all that is brought forward. A letter enquiry can be noted for feed parcels ; but the rates are unchanged. This description is quoted at Is 3d to Is sd. Bar.ey.—Mist of the grain offering does not come under the heading of first-class. Parcels of the kind command 3s to 3s Gd. while the bulk passing through hands is only valued at 2 j 3d to 2* 9d. Potatoes.—Transactions in potatoes have not yet been made to a large extent, and values are still uncertain. The quotations given last wetk of 30s to 35s are still the approximate rates. Flour has had a steady enquiry ;.t £9 to £10, for new season's, nccoiding to the brand, whiic for old lots 10s more is asked. Grass Seed.—The demand for rye-grass for immediate delivery for shipment to the Nor'h Island, aid in a much less degree for autumn sowing in this, still continues brisk, and dealers have a difficulty in fulfilling orders within the time. Good clean farmers' lots are readily taken at 3s 6d to 3s 9d, and for a really first-class line, requiring no redressing, more nioney is ohtainab'e; Inferior samples are saleable, in the absence of better quality, at 2s 9d to 3s 3d. The same briskness is not noticeable in cocksfoot. Considerable quantities of this seed remain unsold, /.ncl quittances ftrc not easily made. Good seed is quoted
