News has been received of the death of Col. Chas. Whybrow Ligar, formerly commandant of New Zealand Militia, aged 72.

New Zealand wheat to-day is quoted at 4s 2d per bushel, and maize at 2s 10d per 60lbs. The markets for brandy, kerosene, rice, sugar, tobacco and candles are unchanged.
The steamer Gunga has arrived from Levuka, and reports that a destructive hurricane has occured there. Two steamers, the Rewa and Go-Ahead, which were lying at anchor in the harbor, sunk at their moorings. The destruction was very great, but the loss of life is not known, as the Gunga was unable to communicate with the shore before leaving, on account of heavy sea.
