After some couveisation, Cr McGregor moved: "That His Worship the Mayor, Crs Black and Cullen be appointed a subcommittee (with power to employ expert skill), to report to the next meeting of the Council on tho state of the main street from Wneekerlo'rf to Bruee's Terrace."

He was informed that the custodian of the hospital had stated that he only allowed the body of the unfortunate man who had died so suddenly to be placed in the morgue as a personal favor to the Sergeant of Police. He considered that as the morgue had been built with public money, and was maintained from the same source, the public had a right to its use without any favor at all. Tho remaining councillors fully concurred in Or McGregor's remarks, and it was resolved to write to the Colonial Secretary, asking what position the morgue was iv, and what control the Council had over it. It was further resolved to write to Mr W. Gundry, the Council's agent at A«hbnrton, about some matters of business connected with the Ashburton reserves ; and to the Government, calling their attention once more to the Additional charge on telegrams. Thu Council then adjourned.
