ROBINSON'S BAY.
The annual meeting of householders for the election of members of a new School Committee for tlie ensuing year was hold in the schoolroom on Monday evening. A unanimous vote from all present placed Mr Whitfield in the chair.
The Chairman read Ihe clause of the Act which entitled such meeting to be held, explained the business to bo done, and laid before them for their consideration the retiring Committee's report and balancesheet for the past year. The report stated that during the past year twelve Committee meetings had been hold. One of the members (Mr Gundy) having loft the district, Mr Kingston had been appointed in bis place. The Committee, with the assistance of the Board, had been able to have the school and master's residence put in thorough repair; the school was well furnished, and, with the exception of the outhouses, which required some alterations, everything about the premises was in good condition. During tho year there bad been a change of teachers. Since MrSpnrrhad commenced his duties there had been a steady increase in the attendance. The number on the roll was now 36, and tho average attendance about 28. -
The Committee desired to thank Mr Sptirr for the many hours he had devoted of his own time to teaching tho children extra subjects, and they confidently looked forward to a great improvement in tho report of tho school at tho next examination.. The balance-sheet (audited and signed as correct by G. 11. Saxton, Esq.) showed—Receipts, £182 5s 7d ; expendt ture, £178 lGs 8d ; balance in bank, £3 8s lid.
• Mr S. Curry moved that the report be adopted as read.
Mr Sager seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.
Messrs W. Whitfield, 11. Sager, 11. Tizzard, T. S. Johnson, W. Morgan, H. Kingston, and S. Curry were elected ns members of Commiitee for tbe ensuing year. A vote of thanks to tbe late Committee terminated the proceedings. The following business was transacted by tho now Committee :—■ Mr Sager proposed that their late Chairman (Mr W. Whitfield) retain his seat. Mr S. Curry said he thought that the office could not be placed in better hands* Their sincere thanks were duo to him for the manner in which he bad hitherto performed his onerous duties, and he would gladly second the motion. Mr Whitfield said he had now been Chairman for the last three years. He 'hanked them for their good opinion, but he would nmch rather they would choose some one else. The members were unanimous in thinking Mr Whitfield the. right man in the rij»ht place, and hoped be would accept. After some further discussion ho agreed to stand. It was determined that tlie Chairman write to the Board with reference to the required alteration's t< |the outhouses. The Committee agreed to grant- 1 leave of absence to Mr Spun- on account of illhealth. A vote, of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business.
