LITTLE AKALOA.

A special meeting of the Akaloa School Committee took, place in the schoolroom on Monday evening. Present —Messrs J. W, Bennett (chairman), Asbfon, (.?. Bennett, IT. Bennett, and A. W.ighorn.

The business transacted was as follows" . The minutes of the last meeting- were read and confirmed.

A letter from the Board of Education re the in-unl annual return of receipts, ex. penditure, stock, etc , and a circular respecting the nomination of two members in place of the retiring members, Messrs Inglis, Fraser, and Stevens, for the ensuing year, were read by the chairman.

An application v. as also received from Messrs G. Bennett and A. Waghorn, requesting the use of the school for fort nightly Sunday services l>y the X v Air Gissiek.

The application was granted

A letter requesting the Committee's vote in favor of Mr Perriman, of Prebbletom as a member of the Board, was also read.

Proposed by Mr Ashton, seconded by Mr 11. Bennett, that Mr Peniman be nominated to one of the vacancies.—Carried.

With reference to the nomination of the other candidates, the Committee, not being in receipt of any information as to what number of candidates might be in the field, it was resolved that the consideration thereof should be postponed until Saturday, the loth inst., so that in the meantime the required information might be obtained.

The Chairman stated that the prizes had [men given out that afternoon, and he bi-lieved that pretty general satisfaction had been given. Several ladies in the district had been generous enough to give some very handsome sewing prize.'. Mr McNicol had also kindly contributed a guinea to the prize fund, and he thought that the least they could do was to pass a hearly vote of thanks in return.

The Committee were unanimous in agreeing with the Chairman's remarks, and passed a cordial vote of thanks to all concerned, and to Mesdames Barker, 11. Bennett, and A. Melntosh.

The Chairman stated that ihe money for Ihe prizes (£5 13s 6d) had been sent to Messrs Crerar and Whitcombe that

afternoon

The account for past quarter's cleaning (£B) was passed for payment. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business.
