AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.
Public Meeting
A meeting of the Ratepayers of this district was held in the Board's office, Duvauchelle's Bay on Saturday at 1 p.m, in terms of an advertisement as to the desirability or otherwise of closing the old Duvauchelle's Bay Road. The meeting was held in terms of'• The Public Works Act, 1880," and the Chairman of the Board, Mr E. Chappell, occupied the chair and stated the object of the meeting. About thirty ratepayers were present. Mr F. W. Williams moved that tho Road be closed and the motion was seconded by Mr B. Shadbolt. Mr Martindale read a list of objections to the closing of road, which have already appeared 'when the consideration of the closing of this road was under discussion in 1877. After some considerable discussion, Mr Sager moved and Mr Tizzard seconded that the road be kept A show of hands was taken, when four hands were held up for the amendment, and fourteen against it. The Chairman then declared that a majority of tbe ratepayers present la 1 dc ided that the road should be stopped.
