WOOL, SHEEPSKINS, HIDES AND TALLOW REPORT.

Messrs 11. Matson and Co. report :—On Thursday, at our Canterbury Wool Stores, we hold oui usual weekly sale of the above. There was a poor attendance of the trade, and an enormous decline in the value of pelts had to bo submitted to ; in .many instances as much as 50 percent less than the rates lately ruling. There can be no doubt that pelts have lately Iwen selling at fictitious values, but when .they drop from absurd prices to their true market value in one week the difference becomes more marked that i( otherwise would be. Our catalogue for the clay consisted of 2091 sheepskins, 134 bags rough fat, 81 hides, a few packages tallow And bags wool, all of which were cleared :at the following quotations:—viz., Best cross bred full wool skins made 5s 6d to Gs 2d each ; best merinos full wool skins, 5s 3d to 5s 10d each ; best pelts. Is to Is Gd each ; second quality, 8d to lid each ; inferior nnd small. 2il, to 7d each ; lambskins, for host, Is 5d to Is lOd each ; second quality, Is to Is 3.1 each ; inferior (id to luJ each ; best rough fut, 2d to per lb ; second quality, lfd to per ]b—nothing , under the latter price; tallow, to 18s Gil per cwt; damaged bides, per lb.
