LITTLE RIVER SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above Committee was held in the schoolroom on December 4th. Present :—Messrs Coop (Chairman), Smith, Greenland, Olphort, Reynolds, ami N. Walters. The minutes of tho previous meeting wore read and confirmed. uonnßsrnjjDEN'OK. Letters were read :— From Board of Education, enclosing forms of returns for quarter ending 30th December. From same, dated Deo. 3, stating that the Board wns willing to appoint Mr Lee as assistant master at the same salary as allowed to the assistant - mistress, wishing to be informed if Mr Lee would accept the post. Mr Lee waited upon the Committee, and agreed to accept the situation on the terms offered, and on his enquiring as to the lodging allowance, Tt was resolved that the Chairman apply to the Board of Education as to the allowance of lodging money for Mr Lee. From the Board of Education, as to the postage of plans, etc. From same, stating , that the Rum of £36 7s 8d had been paid into the Bank of New South Wales, Christchurch, to the credit of the Committee for salaries, etc. From same, re the quarterly returns for September. From Mr Wcstropp, enclosing corrected returns for Sept. quarter. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman stated that after the meeting on the previous Saturday he had called on the for the plans, and was informed that they had not arrived, but on the Monday following, on his son going to the post offi'-e, the plans were handed to him. He at once wrote to the Postmaster for an explanation, and received a reply, which was read. He had also written to the Postmaster, Akaroa, on the subjee.t,and had received a reply. After a short discussion, it was proposed by Mr Smith, seconded b}* MrO!pb«rt, and carried—That, in consequence of (he dehiy and annoyance caused by the miscaniatro of the plans, the Chairman be requested to write to the Chief Post master. Chrislclnuch and request him to enquire as to the nr'si carriage and delay, and to inform the Committes of the result of liia enquiries. It was resolved— I That those children who have passed (he Inspector's examination-* for standards re- ! ceive a prize ; that a Christmas tree be provided for the children on the evening iof Dof. 22, and that the school re open on J Jan 10. 1881. I That subscription lists be opened for the Christmas tree, each Committceman and I store to be supplied with lists. J The meeting then adjourned.
Another meeting of the Conrnitlee was lrld on Saturday. Pre-ent —Messrs Jacobsen (in the chair), Greenland, Reynolds, Smith, find Walters. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read — Fr >m the Postmaster, Christchuroh, acknowledging receipt of letter of Gth inst., as to miscarriage of parcel. RESOLUTIO *S. It WBSTSBolveil Tint the Chairman bo requested to write to the Board of Eduoation for the usual grant in aid of prize- 1 for the children. That the following be appointed to carry out the necessary arrangements for the children's treat—Messrs Greenland, Reynolds, Jacohsen, and Smith. The meeting then adjourned.
