AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURT.
Friday, Dec. 3, 1880 Before Justin Aylmer, Esq., RM. matrimonial troubles. Mary Jane Johnson was charged with creating a disturbance by throwing stones. Sergeant Willis gave evidence as to the circumstances, and called Mr J. O'Brion as a witness. There was another case, in which Mrs Johnson charged her husband (Wilfred Johnson) with using abusive language towards her. Having heard the evidence in both cases, His Worship fined defendant in the first case 20s and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. The second case would be dismissed. civil cases. Okain's District Road Board v. Dalglisb. Claim, £42, rent of jetty in Le Bon's Bay. In this case the decision had been reserved. The Bench now gave judgment for defendant with costs. Mr Wright, Clerk of the Board, said that he was instructed to give notice of appeal, and asked His Worship on what grounds he gave his decision. His Worship replied that he considered the Board had no power to lease the jetty. Hammond v. Gressier. Claim, £33 17s Gd.—This case had also been adjourned. Mr C. M. Henning appeared for the plaintiff. His Worship said he had had some difficulty in coining to a decision in this ease. The ground had never been properly m as :red. Mr Henning pointed out that that this was entirely owing to defendant's wrongdoing. When his client went on the ground he was threatened with violence. His Workup would give judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs and solicitor's fee. Kissel v. Moir. Claim, £2 10s. Judgment by default for amount claimed with costs. The Court then adjourned.
