LITTLE AKALOA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this Committee was held in the school-room on Wednesday evening, Dec. 4. Present—Messrs J. W. Bennett (chairman.) G. Bennett, C. Marshall, 11. Bennett, H. Mcintosh, and A. Waghorn, jun. Mr Barker wished to know what grounds he was debarred from taking his seat as a Committee man. In reply, the Chairman read letters from the Board of Education, in which it wa3 stated, on the authority of the Board's legal advisers, that the proceedings of the meeting jheld on Oct 30, at which Mr Baker was elected a Committee man, were null and void. The Chairman announced that the first business before the Committee was the election of a gentleman to act as member of Committee, in the place of Mr R. Rix (resigned). Mr H. Bennett proposed, and Mr Mcintosh seconded—That Mr George Ashlon be elected to fill the vacancy.— Carried. (Mr Ash ton took his seat as a member of Committee). A letter was read from Mr Cox, schoolmaster, respecting payment for cleaning the school from June 1 to Sept. 30. Proposed by Mr Marshall, and seconded by Mr Waghorn—That as the funds in hand are not sufficient to clear off all arrears, Mr Cox receive the sum of £3 on account, and that Mr Willis (the late school-master) 'receive a similar sum in part payment of the amount still due to him.—Carried. Discussion ensued as to the correspondence lately entered into with the Board of Education re the division of opinion as to the legality of certain matters in connection with the action of the School Committee. To bring matters to a conclusion, Mr Marshall proposed and Mr Waghorn i-c.'firided, — That copies of all such oorresoovvUinre hi-: produced. Proposed, by Mr Ashton, .seconded by Mr G. Proposed by lle/iry Bennett, seconded by Mr George Ashton —That salaries and other accounts, as agreed upon, be paid at once. Carried. It was decided that the School holidays at Christinas be from Dec. 24 to January 27, 1881 ; this being the time at which the residents are moot busy with harvest. Some other business in connection with the schoolroom, etc., having been gone into and settled, tha meeting adjourned.
