OKAIN'S DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Library, Okain's Bay, on Nov. 29. Present—Messrs Moore (Chairman), Barnett, Callaghan, and Oldridge.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE

Letters were read—

From certain ratepayers of Raupo Hill, asking the Board to make a road down to Stonry Bay, to enable them to ship their produce at that place.

The Clerk was instructed to reply that the Board, while recognising the necessity of the road, are not in a position to make it at present, as the funds at their disposal will be required to maintain the present roads ; and as all the funds are in the hands of the County Council, the Board have not the means at present to undertake tho work, but promise to do so when they can spare the money.

From Mr Petersen, Le Bon's Bay, asking the Board to make a road to his house.

The Board considered that as Mr Petersen's land is bounded by a main road, they must decline to spend any more money in that quarter.

clerk's services,

The Clerk intimated that his agreement with the Board had terminated, and produced his accounts for last year, which

were approved of.

On the motion of Mr Callaghan,seconded by Mr Barnett, it was agreed to retain Mr Wright's services for the ensuing year at £75 per annuni, which he agreed to accept

This was at once agreed to. ANNUAL ELECTION. The Clerk was directed to take th necessary steps to fill up the vacancies in the Board, caused hy the retirement by rotation of • Messrs Barnett, Bennot, and Callaghan ; and Messrs C. Hubbard and W. Barnett were appointed as deputy returning officers in Littlo Akaioa and Le Bon's Bay respectively. MOORE'S CONTRACT. . Mr John Moore waited on the Board re his contract on Callaghan's Road, and was told to forward his account to tho Clerk or payment if found correct. The meeting then adjourned to the 29th December.
