GOVERNMENT CHEQUES.
To the Editor.
Sir, —About a week ago I received a small cheque from the Treasury, Wellington, in connection with the Native Department, and before I could tender it as a legal exchange for money I was put to considerable trouble in ssnding it to Akaroa, there to bo countersigned by the Resident Magistrate. lam of opinion that these things could very well be obviated by responsible heads of departments giving their signatures to cheques or other documents which tiaey might be called upon to ißaue. This would save considerable unnecessary trouble in the way of red-tapeism, and ; inconvenience to private parties.—l am,etC'
