AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the above Council was held in their Chambers, Balguerie street, on the 13th inst, Present:—His Worship the Mayor, Cra McGregor, Cullen, Bruce, and Noonan. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. corrkspondence. The outward correspondence was road consisting of a letter to Mr J. Sunckell, Jan., re the crossing in front of his shop. In answer to a question, his Worship stated that tho crossing in questiou had been repaired by Mr Suncßcll. Letters were read — From the Returning Officer, notifying the return (unopposed) of Messrs G. J. Black and J. D. Garwood to fill the vacancies in tho Council. From the Borough Councils of Kaiapoi and Sydenham, declining this Council's offer of timber. ?'■■'' From Mr W. H. Gundry, advising the Council that he had let lot 5 of the Borough Reserves at Ashburton at 4s per acre for the first seven years, and 5s for the second seven years. A cheque for £23 12s Gd being the first half-year's rent, ess charges, was enclosed. FINANCE. g . . . The receipts since the last meeting were reported as follows :—Rates,; £21 2s 7d ; Pound fees, £4 4s ; footways, Upper Jollie street, £1 15s ; Ashburton reserves, £23 12s Gd ; total, £50 14s Id. Bank overdraft, £118 13s 9d. The cheque from Ashburton has not been paid in, consequently the. true overdraft was £95 Is 3d. The pound fees were for the period from July 1 to Sept. 30. . PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Poundkeeper's salary, £3 15s ; Garwood and Co., nails, 2s 2d. Cr Garwood here entered and took his seat. BALANCE SHEET. The balance sheet for the six months ending September.Bo was laid on the table, together with the auditors' report thereon. Cr McGregor noticed that the balance sheet was signed by the Town Clerk. He thought, according to the Act, that i. shonld be signed by the Treasurer. Ho thought it would be as wall tor them to have things correct, and would propose that Mr W. Sims bo appointed Treasurer. —Carried. COMMITTEES': REPORTS. "v Cr Cullen reported that the Works Committee had dono nothing.. Cr McGregor wished to know whether it would be .necessary to move the adoption of" the report. — (Laughter;) TOWN HALL. A conversation-look, place on the question of the indobtedup.;? of tho Council to tho Town Hail Committee.
Cr Noonan gave notice of motion to rescind a previous motion of Or McGregor's on this subject. DOG REGISTRATION. On the motion of Cr McGregor, tho Mayor and the Town Clerk were authorised to procure the necessary collars and books to carry out the provisions of tho new Dog Registration Act. ST. DOCK'S DAY. Cr McGregor would apologise for monopolising so much of the Council's attention, but he thought the season was so forward that the usual celebration of "St. Dock's Day" would have to take place earlier than usual. Cr Cullen thought if they cleared away the docks, &c., now, they, would have to do it again before Regatta day. Cr Garwood thought it would be better to call for tenders for having the work done by the year. The Mayer agreed with Cr Garwood, but was afraid the expense would be too great. The question was left over till next meeting. The Council then adjourned.
