To Town Clerks of Chirstchurch, Kaiapei, Sydenham, llangiora, and Ashburton, relative to «ale of timber, the property of the Council. To W. Gundry, Esq., requesting him to collect rent due on portion of Ashburton reserve. To Government Printer, asking forcertain Ac.tß,, Letters were read— From Mr W. Gundry, relative to Mr Solatia's lease. It was resolved that the consideration of this question should stand over until next meeting.' : From Town Clerk, Christchurch, declining to take over the timber offered. OVKItDHAFT. The Mayor stated the overdraft to be £126 18s. WORKS COMMITTKE. Cr Cullen reported that no work had been done since laet meeting, consequently no money had been expended. PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment :—Clerk's salary £4 3b 4d, Garrick md Cowlishaw £2 4s 6d, Akaroa Mail £2 9a, R. Noonan 12s. TOWN HALL. An account for 30e was considered. Cr McGregor was of opinion that this account opened up a broa i question, believing that the Town Hall Committee had no right to charge or sue for recovery, but he would not now go against the payment, reserving to himself, to open the question at a future time. After some consideration of the matter, Cr McGregor said he would endeavor to produce the deed of the trustees, or a copy thereof, at next meeting. A NUISANCE. Cr Cullen complained of a dangerous and objectionable drain opposite Mr Sunkelt's butchers shop. The Mayor corroborated Cr Cullen's rema*rky on the sqbject, and urged the Council to take some action in the matter. A letter sent to Mr Sunkell on tho subject was then read. Cr Cullen fuoved, and Cr McGregor seconded, that Mr J. Sunckell be written to, giving him seven days' notice to remove the nuisance complained of, under clause_2l, Borough Bye-laws.—Carried. ■j , : ANOTHER NUISANCE. Cr Bruce called the Clerk's attention to a nuisance caused by people depositing rubbish, etc., on the banks of Aylmer's Valley Creek. The Clerk was directed to report on the matter. 1 ' ' : i "' CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS'. A discussion took place on this subject, and Cr McGregor moved, and it waR agreed to, that the further consideration of the matter should be left over sine die. ■. ■•; LATE TOWN CLERK'S SURETY. According to notice given, Cr McGregor moved—That in \ie\y of Messrs Garrick and Cdwlishaw'sjopinion re the surety for the late Town Clerk, the surety be disthe same. Seconded by Cr Noonan. Cr Henning was of opinion that the Council were-making a mistake in' .letting the security off. They were there to look after the ratepayers' money, and should do their duty. It seemed strange to him that Cr McGrogor's motion should find a seconder. Oa the motion being put, Cr Helming demanded that the names in the division should be taken down.

Ayes—Crg McGrejror, Bruce, Noonan, Cullen, Gtitberlot. Noes—His Worship the Mayor and Cr Henning. The motion was consequently carried. There being no other business, the Council then adjourned.
