WOOL, SHEEPSKINS, HIDES AND TALLOW REPORT.
Messrs H. Matson and Co report: —On Thursday at our Canterbury Wool Stores we held our usual weekly sale of the above There was average attendance of feJJmongers, and prices were higher (both in sheepskins, hides and tallow) than they have before been this season. Taken as a -whole the sale was the most satisfactory ■we have had this year; our catalogue comprised 2G92 sheepskins. 139 bags rough fat, 100 hides and calfskins, several bags of wool, and also cases and packages of tallow, the whole of which were disposed of at the following quotations, viz. : —Butchers' best cross-breds made 6s 8d to 7s Id, one exceptionally good line making 7e 3d each ; second quality, 5a 6d to 6s 5d each; medium, 4s to 5s 4d each. The Bkins from the sheep bred by Mr Bristol, of lirnaru, excited very general admiration, and were sold at 5s ltd each. These sheep were got by merino rains out of Leicester ewes, and the wool for (staple and density could not be Butchers' best merinos made 5s 4d to 5a 10d each ; second quality, 4a Gd to 5a 3d each ; medium, 3« to 4s 4d each. Dry country skint* made 9d to Gs 8d each. Lambskins, Id to 7d each. Salted hides, specinl line, 3|d per lb. General run of hides, 3|d per lb- Calfekiiiß, 4§d per lb. Wool, 4d to s£d per lb. Best rough fat made 2| to 2 7-16 d, per lb ; second quality, 2£d to'2£d per lb. Inferior, l£d, to 2tl per lb. Tallow, por lb, in packages, 2£, 2|d, 2fd, to 2£d per lb. Do, in casks, 20s, 23s 6d, to 25s per cwt.
