It is announced that the Duke of Manchester will visit New Zealand daring his stay in the colonies. It is proposed to hold a race meeting here in Sir Hercules Robinson's honour when he visits Melbourne on his way to England. The proposal meets with general approval in sporting circles. August ~2G. Sir Hercules Robinson has accepted the invitation to the race meeting to be held here on Sept 10. There will be a large amount of added money to the chief event. Sydney, August 25. The race for the Hawkesbnry Guineas resulted as follows :—Go/aldine 1, Sapphire 2, Kamalaroi 3 ; time lm 455. Brisbank, August 26. The Opposition have renewed their obstruction in the Assembly to the mail contract, and the Government now threaten to adjourn for three months without supply. Adelaide, August 25. In the Legislative Council Bray has tabled a vote of want of confidence in the Government on the Estimates.
