AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Friday, July 2. (Before Justin Ayliner, Esq., R.M.,) TRANSFER OF LICENSE. J. Beecher applied for a temporary transfer of the license of Bruce's Hotel from himself to Thoß. Grange. The police having no objection to raise the transfer was granted. Civil Casks. E. M. Watkina v. Billy Williams. This was a judgment summons for tho sum of £11 19s. Defendant pleaded poverty, and The Bench declined to make an order informing plaintiff that he could proceed at any future time if lie had any information of defendant's being possessed of means. Mr Tikao, Native Assessor, occupied a seat on the Bench. LARCENY. Minna Neilson pleaded guilty to the larceny of a locket and chain. It appeaiod that prisoner, who stated that she was only seventeen, was employed as servant by Mr li. Knight. The iouket in question being missed, prisoner was interiogated about it. but stoutly denied knowing , anything , about it. Her employer* oik-red to look over tho offence if she would let them know'where the articles was. She persisted, however, in her a.sair.'ui.ii.oiis, and the mutter was theiviipon jiUced in tho hands; of the po'k-.e, who discovered that t-.'io had taken I tue locket to 3jG Bon's and given it tJ a fiittiM oi ii'.'i , .^. The: [k:;n:h were unwilling (v send prisoner l<> ga'.'l, iiir.i sentenced her to seven days' iini'iisniinicufc with hard labor, the police niidi-naking to keep her in Akaroa during that puriod. The Court tlien adjourned.
