There were present orf the Bench— J. Aylmer, Esq., R.M., Messrs: A.!.,C. Knight, U. Fenton,. and W. Tosswill.- ■.:'.
The followjng renewal of licenses were granted :—Wes.. 'Chamberlain, Wagstaff's Hotel; John 'Beecher, Brace's Hotel ; Antonio Rodrigues, Madeira.Hotel : Jlobt. Bailey, Waeckerle's Hotel ; Thos. Brooks, Somerset Hotel; Edwafd Jackson, Hill Top Hotel ; John Olpbert, Forsyth Arms Hotel; G-eorge Waseoe. /. Beach Anns Hotel-; Henry M'lntosh,' Lfttie'Akaloa. /Sergeant Willis?, in .reply tovthe-usual question |>ut by the v*aid that, he had .ho <?omplaints ; Ho -make, but that Thomas Brooks had been fined ..twice during the year, and Edward Jackson once. The Benuir remarked they had heard bad reports j£ Wascoe's Hotel. Only a few days previously two gentlemen had called there, and been : Buppljed with liquor, and had 'found Uie'rnselyea, exceedingly unwell after drinking it. The Bench requested the police to iiiake enquiries into the matter. ; | ; •■ . J "' ; '' " TRANSFER.'' ~ '. " Thomas Adams applied for a transfer of the -license of the Criterion .Hotel to Benjamin-Glew. Sergh Willie reporteid that he knew Mr Grlew and belieyeiiiiui to be ,a,iitting' person to holß a license ; he woqld, however, request thie Bench: him against niaiiy bbys youth? into his liilliard room. FRESH APPLICATION. , Mr H v Firmston applied for a license for ft house near Pigeon Bay.., He stated 'that the house was "not builit, but before incurring any \expense"h'e wanted to know whether the Bench wotild be againstgranting a license. ■ , . •The Bertchireplied-that at present they saw no reason for refusing, but that they could not bind themselves to .any promise before hand. By the , time the house would be reiidy it would, be rtnost likely a new Licensing Bill would be in force, which might quite alter matters. It would then be likely to rest with the wishes of the residents in the district. The Court then adjourned;
