A poor crop is expected. 1400 tons have cleared for Australia, and 200 tons for New Zealand. Messrs William Howard Smith and Sons, owners of a large fleet of steamers,

trading between (Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, contemplate having their boats fitted with refrigerating machinery for the purpose of carrying shipments of meat from Queensland to be transhipped at Sydney to Orient line. Freights at Mauritius at last advices had little enquiry ; rate to Australia was 32s 6d to 87s 6d ; tonnage was scarce.
