OKAIN'S DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.

Satubday, May 1. A meeting of this Board was held on the above date, at [the Library, Okain's Bay. Present-i Messrs Moore (Chairman), Bennett and Qldridge. MINUTEB. The minutes of the last meeting were read and coufirmed. : ~ i ■ ; CoBRESPONDENCE. The following inward correspondence was then read:— From Mr Knight, offering to make & new road to Laverick's for £35. Moved by Mr Oldridge, seconded by Mr Benpett—" That the offer be accepted, as soon as the Board be in available funds." Carried., From certain ratepayers in Lβ Bon's, requesting a sum of £20 to be expended on the Waikerakikari road Moved by Mr Oldridge, seconded by Mr Bennett, and canied—".That the amount applied for be granted." From Mr Thacker, applying for certain repairs.to the jetty,. Okain's Bay, which had been damaged by the late fire. Moved by Mr Oldridge, seconded by Mr Bennett—"-That the matter be held over till the next meeting, and that in the meantime the Clerk and Chairman inspect the damages and prepare a report on the same." From Mesere Izard and Loughnan, Tβ Kenny's bankruptcy. Resolved that the matter be referred to Messrs Wynn Williame and Deacon, solicitors to the Board. ' From the Under Secretary for Public Works Wellington, asking for a statement of all accounts up to March 31st, according to the regulations of the Public Works Act. The Clerk informed the Board that the statement was prepared. Hβ read the same, and was instructed to post it without delay. ' The statement showed the receipts during the year'to be £2010, the expenditure £1640, thus leaving the Board a credit balance of £370.

The Clerk observed that the Board had not received a sixpence from the Council, and what little there had been allotted to them by the Council, that body had spent. From Messrs Wynn Williams and Deacon, solicitors,' stating that Messrs McConnell and Douglas, solicitors for Mr J. W. Smith, were willing to convey certain land applied for; that Mr Smith acknowledged owing the £55 to the Board, but that the Boad Board were indebted to him to the extent of £25. Mr Smith being asked, stated that he had, according to agreement, bought the crane and placed it on the jetty, and that if the only hitch in the matter was the erecting of the same, he would have it done at once. It was resolved that the matter be. left to a full meeting of the Board. Mr Smith likewise, applied for some allowance to be made for the jetty house which he had erected. Resolved that the matter stand over till the two can be brought under the consideration of a full meeting. DEPUTATIONS. Messrs Hemraingsen and Nelson waited on (.he Board, and stated that Mr Barnett had fenced in a portion of the creek and prevented themselves and their cattle from access to it. It was agreed that the Clerk should communicate with Mr Barnett on the same, and request him to move the fence. pawson's road. Mclntosh 59 0 0 Richard Waghorn 50 0 0 Mr Bennett to whom, in this case, the accepting of the tenders had been entrusted, stated that he had accepted Mr Barker's, and that by thia time the work, was half finished. OABBIAGE ROAD, LE BON'S BAY. The following tenders for benching and forming the above road were accepted :— Section No. I—G. Hall ...£3B 16 3 Section No. 2—Oliver Evans 29 8 0 Section No. 3—Oliver Evans 71 8 0 PANAMA ROAD. Mr Bennett applied for authority to place a man on this road for a week or a fortnight just to,make the road safe, saying that in its present state it was not so. It was resolved that £10 be devoted to 4 thejob, and that the Clerk oversee the work. BRIDGE. ( Mr Bennett applied for repairs to be done to a bridge on the Little Akaloa road. It was resolved that the Clerk and Mr. Bsnnett should meet to see the bridge onTuesday, and have the necessary repairs effected. . WAIKERARIKARI ' BOUNDARY. Mr McMillan and three others from Le Bon's requested the Board to alter the Lβ Bon's south east boundary, as at present they had each a portion of their four sections in the Aknroa and Wainui District, and that, owing to this they would be compelled to pay rates to both Boards. Matter held over. < ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were then passed for payment: —
