AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD
Saturday, May 1. A meeting of this Board was held, on the above date, at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. , Present —Messrs Chappell (in the chair), Shadbolt, M'Donald, and Piper. BRIDGE ON MOUNT BOSBU BOAD. Mr M'Phail was in attendance to interview the Board with reference to this bridge. He wished to know how he was to construct it. Mr Piper thought, that was a question which it was not for the Board to answer. The contractor should be able to do the work which he had tendered for. Mr M'Phail said bo he would if he had been allowed to finish his contract. It was decided that the bridge had to be built, and that the contractor should have permission to bench three chains of road to enable him to get the .timber through for the bridge. Mr M'Phail was further informed that the Board had resolved that no further payments would be made until the bridge was finished. MINUTES. . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read — From Mr Eugene Lelievre, stating that the Board's contractors for Odell's road Were endangering his fence, and that he would hold the Boiard responsible for any damage done. ,;> f . ■> , . f .-; The ; < Already; decided that they-werp.not responsible.' " ' ■ '. ■ iv; ?' • ■ ■"■; ■■'.-. ~ ' The general opinion appeared td be that if Messrs Masefield didJnot want the road the Board could not help it. ■■ < The letter was received. ; From Mr James.Hammond, asking again that the Board would: provide him with a road to his property. ' . From Mr R. 'Dawber, , offering; a portion of his section 186, say. % a chain by half a chain, for £30,. the Board paying sll expenses of transfer, survey, &c. \ Applicant to b$ informed that the Board could not entertain the proposition. , From the pqunty Council, covering resolution of that-body to the effect that the Liitle River and Wainui Road Boards be left to decide on the allocation rif balance of funds in the hands of the Council for the Mount Bossu road. Resolved that the Little River Board be •written to, asking them to consent to refer the matter to arbitration. From the Under-Secretary for Public Works, relative to the closing of the old Duvauchelle's Bay road, stating that the information furnished the department was incomplete, and asking for a statutory declaration that the act had been complied with. Information to be furnished. From the same, asking for certain returns, which were directed to be forwarded. From the Colonial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of a memorial relative to taking land in French Farm Bay, and stating that it had been referred to the Public Works Department. From Mr W. M'Kay, promising to erect the fencing as soon as the road to the jetty was opened. : Also, asking whether the Board wished liberty renewed for a passage through his land. FLEA BAY ROAD. The Clerk was instructed to visit this road, and see what could be done to improve the bad places on it. duvauchelle's bay bridge. The Clerk read the specifications for protective works of this bridge, and it was decided to leave the question of executing the work over till next meeting. TENDERS. The following tenders wero then opened :— PROTECTIVE WORKS, BELL'S ROAD. James Hammond, three weeks, £11. James Brown, three weeks, £10 9s. Brown's tender was accepted. fyfe's bridge. j Funnell and Curragh, two month, £35. A. F. Hawthorne, three months, £50. W. Jones, three weeks, £41. The tender of Funnell and Curragh was accepted.
PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:— Printing and advertising .».,' £5 15 : ' 0 Harper, Harper, and Scott ... 1 10 Raven and Co., final payment 34 0 0 J. Porter, compensation .... 32 10 0 £,73 6 0 AKABOA" CEMETERY. ' The Clerk was authorized, to get the work done asked for by the Rev...Mr Stocker at last 'meeting. The Treasurer was authorized to pay all amounts due on contracts in full, together with those passed at last meeting and the present one. The Board then adjourned till Saturday, June 5.
