LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday, April 5. Present—All the members. Letters were received as follows :— From the Secretary to the Treasury, stating that the second moiety of rate subsidy had been paid to the district fund account. From the manager of the Union Bank, acknowledging the receipt of the above. From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, in relation to the unexpended portion of special grant for Ridge road in the hands of the County Council. From the County Council, requesting list of additional ratepayers, with their valuation for the present year. From the Halswell Road Board, renewing their offer of August 11th, 1879. From Mr Harley, requesting the Board to take some action with respect to drainage. From Mr Codling, asking for some repairs to road in the direction of Messrs Ford and Newton's station.
From Messrs Wood, Allan and others, urging the formation of road in Little River bush. From Messrs Burrell, Stanbury and others, requesting the Board to proceed with the formation of road up the Mill valley. , * A circular was received from the Secretary to the Treasury relative to the retention by Government of portion of land fund. A report upon the state of the Halswell River between the lagoon at Ahuriri and the lagoon on MQueen's Flat was received from Mr John Radford. A copy of the report to bo sent to the Springs Road Board. Mr Wright, jun., from Island Bay, interviewed tbe Board relative to the formation of a road in that locality. Mr Wright to obtain a tracing certified by the- Chief Surveyor, showing the position of the required road. With reference to the unexpended balance of special grant for Ridge road in the hands of the County Council, the Board concluded to accept one-half, though the valuation of the work done in this district did not warrant such a liberal offer. With reference to Messrs Wood, Allan and others' application, the Akaroa and Wainui Board to be informed of its natnre ; that the land to which access is required not being in the Little River district, the Board suggests that, to meet the difficulty, an alteration in the boundary line between the two districts be made ; the proposed new boundary to commence at the point of the spur on the western side of Peraki Bay, facing the sea, section 22,000; from thence through the Devil's Gap in a straight line to S>uth Park, and continue along the watershed of Mount Sinclair, and "along the Purau track to its junction with the boundary ©f the Port Levy district Mr lo be informed that the Board have'no power to entertain his request. The Chief 3amjr<fr tjo be asked to allow Mr Surveyor Bay tpjdet off the lower end of the Mill Vjlley road. Mr Wm. White to be asked to sell a smr.ll portion of section 568'J, required for road on Walker's creek. The Halswell Road Board to be informed that the clearing of the main drain has been let this day, which work will meet the requirements of the district. Mr Codling's request to be attended to. A report upon the works completed during the month was submitted and adopted. A large number of tenders were opened, and one in each case accepted. The Board then adjourned.
