Friday, Feb. 6. (Before J. Aylmer, Esq., R.M.) FORIOUS RIDING. William Coopei was charged with this offence. Sergeant Willis proved its commission, and his Worship inflicted a fine of 40s and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment, at the samo time expressing his determination to put an end to the practice of riding furiously through the town. Civil Cases. E. S. Latter, as treasurerer of the Akaroa County Council v. D. Wright. Claim, £4 lGs, amount of a dishonored cheque. Mr A. I M'Gregor appeared on behalf of the Council under sec 93 of the Counties Act. Defendant deposed to having paid tho amount in to Mr Lai tor's private account before receiving the summons. Mr M'MGregor contended that, granting this, it did not ail'ect the case winch was brought by the Council on the cheque before the Court. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for the amount claimed and costs. J. Suuckoll, jun. v. William Hammond. Claim XI2, purchase money of mare. Thij caso had been adjourned for the svidence of defendant's brother, Walter Hammond. Thia witness denied having purchased the horse from his brother, hut admitted that the latter had agreed to sell it to him, if ho bought it.

— Lelievre deposed to having a conversation with the last witness, in which Hammond stated that he had bought the horse.

Judgment was reserved till Tuesday, February 10.
