BOROUGH FINANCE.

To Hie Editor of the Alcaroa Mail,

Sic, —Having seen several scraps in your paper bearing on Council Finance, intended no doubt to injure the present clerk by insinuatng inaccuracies on the half-yearly balance-sheet.. I feel bound to say-that being Chairman of the Finance Committee at the time, I am in a position to say;th.it the balance-sheet is certified to by the auditors as correct, with all vouchers,' &c. The money your correspondent writes to know about was lodged, as per Bank bookjqn the 4th October. It is easy to aswul another, but if the zeal displayed by a number in Akaroa was turned into another channel, how much good might be done.

Yours, &c, WM. MEECE
