It will be remembered that at the last meeting of the Borough Council a committee was appointed to take into consideration the financial position of the Borough, and report to a special meeting of the Council, to be held on Saturday evening. On Friday evening only three of the committee put in an appearance at the appointed time, and these three did not consider it advisable to go into the business. It being understood that the committee had not met, and that therefore no report would be forthcoming, there was no quorum for the special meeting called for Saturday evening, which consequently lapsed. A public tea meeting in connection with the Akaroa Congregational Church is announced to take place on Wednesday evening. The Rev. Mr Robins, from Otago, and other friends are expected to address the meeting in the evening. Tickets can be obtained from any of the members of the Church. * The new Telegraph and Post offices at the Head of the Bay are now quite finished. The building consists of an office and living apartments for the officer in charge. The room set apart'for the office will be used as the Post office and operating room for the telegraphist. No outward decorations have been wasted, the erections are plain and unpretending, and the whole buildings are surroundsd by a strong picket fence. One objection strikes the local observer, and that is the position of the window for giving out letters and stamps, and the position o£ the principal business entrance in facing the South West. This being the direction of. the prevailing wind, and as it can blow at the Head of the Bay, great inconvenience will no doubt ofte"n arise from this • cause. ; Mr Meddings, of the telegraph department, Christchurch, connected the office with the: Christchurch line of wire the other day, and all that is wanted is the operator. The offices of the County Council are now advancing toward completion, and present a'rather imposing external appearance, but as yet we have not had an opportunity of examining the internal arrangements of this office. We had almost omitted to say that.the contiactor Post and Telegraph offices is Mr Noah'Walters, of Little River, who. has carried out his contract in a highly creditable, manner. We understand that there is a probability of an eleven from Christchurch visiting Akaroa on the 16th December, if a team can be got together on the Peninsula willing to meet them in the .cricket field. It is a remarkable, and we hope an unprecedented fact that on her last trip the Hawea sailed from this port without a single package of cargo.
