district for the purpose of erecting a jetty or any other public works. The Chairman thought that perhaps in conjunction with thi3 letter the Council might take into consideration the motion of which Mr Barker had given notice at the previous meeting, that their funds be allocated to the various Road Boards. Mr Barker would like to obtain an pression of opinion from the ratepayers as to whether they would wish to see this money expended by the Road Boards or retained by the County Council. He would, however, move the resolution. Mr Fleming seconded the resolution. ■■*• Mr Dalglish proposed as an amendment that the money be retained in the handa of the Council. The amendment was carried, and it was held that this disposed of the application •from.Pigeon Bay, as well as one from the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, asking for its share of the 20 per cent of the Land Fund. -.-... okain's road board. CLOSING OLD ROADS. Mr Hay caUed the, attention of the Council to the great difficulties and expense attending the sale of old roads. He thought it would be a great benefit to the district if some of these restrictions were done away with.' At present the cost of survey was so.great as to . swallow up all the proceeds.- He would move that Mr Montgomery be written to, asking him to introduce a short amending bill, authorizing them to use the existing plans instead of having to have fresh surveys made.
