LOCAL MARKETS.
Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. report on the Live Stock Market for tho week ending Friday, August 15, as follows:—Although our Wednesday's market was only moderately supplied with fat sheep, the different salesmen experienced the greatest difficulty in quitting at anything like satisfactory prices. Mutton cannot be quoted over 2£d per lb, but as the spring advances and pkins become more valuable, we have no d tubt but that prices will improve. The demand for good beef was certainly greater and we considered it was selling higher than the previous week, and can be quoted at from 25s to 30s per 1001b according to quality, with an upward tendency, hlore cattle are not much enquired after, nor do we think they will be until we get well into the spring months with an abundance of feed in the country. Good milch cows and springers are in fair demand at from £7 10a to £10 10s each. At our wool and skin sale on Thursday there was a good attendance of buyers, and we succeeded in quitting our supply at very fiood prices. Butchers' cross-breds made from '6s Gd to 4s 4d each, and merino skins from 3s io 4s each, according to length and weight of wool. Tallow sold from to 1 fil per lb, and hides at 3d per lb.
