News from the Cap.c to July 29 has been received. T*e re-advance of two British columns was ordered to take place on August 3, to rendezvous at Magdibonium on August 6. The iron trade is reviving.
The total reserve of notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £21,125,000. August 15. . The miners have resolved to establish a voluntary emigration fund. All workmen being eligible. Parliament has been prorogued. The Queen's speech says that Foreign relations are friendly and cordial. The Treaty of Berlin has been faithfully executed by the signatures of the Powers. The calamity of war has prevented the execution of reforms in Turkey; the British Government continues to urge the execution of these upon the Sultan. The misgovernment of Egypt has compelled the change of Khedive. The frontier tribes and Ameer of Afghanistan guarantee the safety and peace of India. The Government trusts that the recent successes in Africa may lead to a speedy conclusion of peace. There is no mention of the Greek question. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, in. replyiug to a question, said that in consequence of the great excitement on the frontiers of Thessaly and Epirus, the Turkish and Greek Governments had strengthened their-forces. The British Government did not consider it necessary to mention Greece in the Queen's speech. August 16. The latest Cape hews reports that Cetewayo has asked the British Com-, mander if, in the event of his ing, his life would be-spared. An affirmative reply has been sent to him.
