THE, "CRUSADERS" AGAIN.

To the Editor of tlie Akaroa Mail.

Sir, —In your issue of the 29th ulto., I noticed a letter from Mr Nicholls on the Crusades, written, ostensibly, for tho reason of correcting " two little errors," but in reality, it seems to me, to air his own opinions and thoughts which he failed to express at the Association ; but were I Mr Nicholls I ceitainly should not, however much "guilty conscience" might prick, let the general public know that 1 considered myself an " ignoramus and a blockhead!" for, unless these words emanated from his own thoughtful brain, I do not know where he heard them, positively not from the lips of the essayist, nor any other speaker in the room. In conclusion, let me add, that the only correct statement Mr Nicholls makes in his letter is where ho says that he did not criticize tho essayist. Ho certainly did not; he simply abused him and his essay, and if Mr Nicholls learnt such a mode of discussion in the English Houses of Parliament and Law Courts, why, I think, tho sooner he enters Borough Councils and learns some of their dignified ways, the better for him, and for those with whom he may come in contact. Yours, &c, TRUTH. Akaroa, August 2, 1879.
