AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, June 28.

A meeting of this Board was held on tho abovo date at their, offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. Present— Messrs Williams (Chairman), Curry, and M'Donald. ' . . The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. INTKBVIEWS. Mr J. Lelievre waited upon the Board, and stated that he was not satisfied with the fence being erected along his property on the-Long Bay-road extension. ,—- r- ' The Cierk was instructed to;see l the contractors for the work, ! and arrange f° r putting in another wire, and inform them that the specifications must be strictly adhered to. Mr J. M'Lareh waited upon the Board on behalf of Mr T. Pawson, the contractor for widening the Barry's Bay road, and stated that they found they had taken the work too cheap,, and that they wished to give it up. j '» " \ --'.' : ,' : - " The Chairman informed him that the Board would consider the matter, and inform him of the result. Mr T. S. Baker waited upon the Board in reference to a road* to open up hia sees, at the top of French Farm Valley. The Board undertook to consider the matter. walmsley's road. Mr M'Donald moved in reference to this work that the Inspector of Works open up the proper line of road to Mr Walmsley's by day labor, if suitable men are procurable, and if not that tenders be called for the work. The motion was seconded by Mr Curry, and agreed to. GENERAL CONDITIONS. Mr Curry moved that in future the Board's general conditions be attached to all their specifications. The motion was agreed to. FRENCH" FARM VALLEY ROAD. A letter was received from the Chief Surveyor, intimating that when a Surveyor was at French Farm, be would be instructed to lay out the road to new sections, and at the Bame time suggested that he did not think two roads were necessary as they would run almost parallel, only about 10 or 12 chains apart. The Clerk was directed to reply that it was not the intention of the Board to take the road into the old French Farm Spur road, but to bring it on to the projected new French Farm Valley road.

It was resolved to defer the matter until a full meeting of the Board. odell's road. - On the motion of Mr M'Donald, it was agreed that Mr Odell be written to, asking him to re-consider his offer in reference to this road, as the Board considered it would be unfair to Mr E. Leh'evre to close the old road without giving him a frontage on the new road. ~ . . HORSE-SHOE BEND. It was resolved to call the attention of the contractor, Mr T. Brough, to the state of this work, and ascertain what he intended doing in the matter, and also intimating that unless he carried on the work in terms of the specification the Board would enforce the penalties., .. - ; .. v . The consideration of this matter was held over until next meeting. LONG BAY ROAD. Mr T. S. Johnson wrote, asking for a progress payment of £50 on this work, and suggesting that unless the culverts were* at once putin there was no use going, on with the work. It was resolved that if tho lower part of the road had been done in terms of the specification, to take.it off the contractor's hands. MOUNT BOSSU ROAD. A letter was received from Mr W. M'Kay, Wainui, agreeing to allow the present road to his property, through Rhodes' flat, to be closed on the conditions that the compensation money be equally divided between the Wainui Pass road, and that the balance of Kenny's coutmct be made 20ft. wide, to allow of dray trafHc. On the motion of Mr M'Donald, seconded by Mr Curry, the terms of Mr M'Kay'a letter were agreed to. SUMMIT ROAD. A letter was to hand from Mr J. Woodill, the contractor for the Summit road from Barry's Pass, to Pigeon Bay, asking to be allowed to stop the works during the present .wet weather, and asking for an extension of time. The Board resolved to extend the contractor's time eight weeks. REPORTS.--Reports were received from the Inspector of Works, in reference to the extension of tbe Balguerie street road to Mr A report wan also-road from Messrs Fentdn .'UKi Wilkins on tho same subject, and sug- : ..gesting that a deputation of .the' Board should visit the line of road. The matter was deferred until a full meeting of the Board.
