LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tins Board was bold on Monday, June 2. Present—Messrs Parkinson (in the chair), Gebbie, Coop, and Forbes. The following letters were received : — From tho Springs Road Board in reply, stating their willingness to assist in placing a new briilge over the Halswell near Lumber's. From Mr Westropp, Hon. Sec. to tho Cenuittry Trust at Little Iliver, asking , that tho Cemetery road be formed in continuation to tho junction of the Western Valley road.

From Mr A. M'Phail, stating that he had graded and pegged the proposed road on the western side of Mount Bossu. From Mr Mardiman, relative to the gravel pit reserve near Lake Forsyth. From the Akaroa County Councii, enclosing copy of resolution passed at the last meeting of that body on May 23. From Mr De Eourbel, requesting road made to his property near Reed's Hill on Mount Bossu range. ' From Mr R. A. Stewart relative to a road passing through section 21799. Also, from the same, offering to supply teams and supervision of work in reducing points and widening culverts on the Christchurch road in Little River bush. From residents of Tai Tapu, stating that persons are from time to time carting soil from the cross roads in the township of Hepworth for the purpose of filling in holes on their own land. Mr Alfred Joblin interviewed the Board for the purpose of getting some work done to the road in Okute Valley. The Clerk to report at next meeting, and Mr Joblin to ascertain the wishes of the residonts in the meantime. In reference to Mr Bevin'a application at last meeting for some necessary work to be done in Kaituna Valley, it was decided that ho be paid the sum of £50, and that he complete tho work, consisting of benching about 60 chains, and procuring logs and other requisites for five culverts, and placing the same. Resolved — That the necessary works ' required in widening culverts and remov.ing angles on the Hill road, Little' River bush, be done by the day, and that teams and men be engaged for the prosecution of the work. That Mr Fenton, C.E., be informed the Board confirms the resolution passed at special meeting appointing him to supervise the Mount Bossu road extension, and also requesting him to estimate the value of the work done by the contractors, and inform the Board of the result at his earliest convenience. That Mr Westropp's application be acceded to. That the Clerk arrange a meeting with the Surveyor to the Springs Road Board for the purpose of inspecting the bridge at Kimber's. That Messrs Blanchard and M'lntyre be employed to survey and map the new road extending from Ahuriri to south of Kaituna, and also prepare tracings of road, to be exchanged and compensated, with the object of placing the same under the Public Works Act. With reference to the practice of stealing the soil from the cross roads in the Hepworth township, it was concluded that as the township is about to be vested in the Board, to give public notice that in future all persons making such mistakes will be sued as the law directs. A report on the works in progress was submitted and approved, and it was de cided to invite tenders for breaking about 1200 3*ards of metal in localities to be named ; also, for building one bridge and two culverts in Okute Valley ; also, forming Cemetery road ; also, forming Western Valley in continuation. Resolved —That a rate of sixpence in the £ be levied in the district. Sundry payments were made, and the Board adjourned.
