The following is the official estimate of the value of property in the Colony taxable under the Land Tax Act, 1878 :— Auckland £3,235,000 Hawkes' Bay ... ... 3,899,079 Wellington 7,983,361 Nelson 3,000,000 Canterbury ... ... 15,790,000 Otago 16,800,000 Total ... £50,707,440 This at Jd in the £ will yield £105,625 per year. The Wellington district includes Wellington and Taranaki Provincial districts; Nelson includes Nelson, Marlborough, and Westland Provincial districts ; Hawkes' Bay includes Hawkes' Bay Provincial district and Cook County.
