ELECTION OF COUNCILLOR.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sir, —There is another vacancy to be filled in the Borough Council. There was one filled a short time ago. I certainly think the burgesses should show some interest in this matter, and endeavour to put some person in that will uphold the credit of the Council. I was pleased when a petition was brought round to ask such an one to come forward. I was also pleased to hear from the bearer of the petition that the person mentioned therein was fortified with an opinion of the highest authority in the matter of infringement of the Municipal Corporations Act, by receiving monies while acting as a Councillor. I trust therefore to hear no more disputes on this question. I was pleased also for another reason to see the petition before referred to, which is, I think, after the close shave of the majority of Councillors retreating, in in consequence of the advent of one whose face was not at all reassuring for the orderly conduction of Council business, that the public have, in this instance, studied the feelings of their present representatives.—Yours, &c, BURGESS.
