AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

• Saturday, May 17. - A meeting of this Board was held on the above date at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. . ■ t Present— Messrs Williams (Chairman), -Chappell,.Shadbolt, and M'Doriald. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. • "'•': : correspondence. Mr Moore handed in a letter, and waited on the Board to ask for a small portion of the Onuku. road to be made from Kenny's contract to his property. The Clerk of Works was instructed to attend to the matter and have a 10 feet road made. Another application from the same for a progress payment on account of fencing was referred to the Clerk of Works to report on, A letter was read from Mr E. Harrington, asking the Board to effect some repairs on the. road in German Bay, leading to his place. { \ : ; '," •' The, .CJe-k, of Works was directed to visit and report On-the matter. '•* An application from Messrs Brough and Lines for final payment on the Robinson's Bay Flat road was referred to the Clerk. Barry's bay valley road; ' A'memorial-was received^from some residents on this line, known as Harman's old track, asking for the Board's favorable consideration of this road, leading from.the main road, and running in the direction of the saw-mill tramway. j The matter was referred to the Clerk of Works'to report'on; ' '

Mr iFeriton thought it would save the Board the expense of another inspection to make this deduction instead of compelling the contractor to rectify the deficiencies, bat of course it rested with the Boaid to consent to this, or to compel the cont actor to complete his work. Mr Shadbolt thought that in justice to all tenderers every contractor should be called upon to complete his work in accordance with the specifications. Mr . Chappell concurred, and moved a resolution that Mr Vangioni be informed that the Board decline to pay any more j money till the work is satisfactorily com- i pleted. The resolution was carried. FRENCH FARM FLAT ROAD. On > the motion of Mr M'Donftld, the Clerk of Works was instructed td prepare plans ; and specifications for.re-forming and stone walling the road along French Farm road, and.also for ..metalling the road-from the school to Wardle and Shadbolt's contract. ALLOCATION OF FUNDS. Mr Chappejl moved, "That the amounts sperit .on making, roads since - ; 1873,' together with the amounts of all unfinished worksnow in course of construction, be.laid before the Board at their next meeting, so that they may copeider the advisability of allocating the funds for the benefit of those parts that are riot sufficiently roaded, and have not received a fair, share ,of the public funds, such return each riding separately, and each district in the riding." Considerable discussion ensued, a great part of which, as the Chairman pointed out, would have been more appropriate when the return was before them. * Ultimately after one or two verbal amendments the resolution was agreed to. ROAD TO LIGHTHOUSE. ; Mr Chappell moved, "That a memorial be forwarded to the Government* pointing out the desirableness constructing a road from Akaroa to the lighthouse, reminding them of the delays incident to the detention of steamers bringing supplies and materials for the lighthouse."—Carded. ;■■•■-'':■• : •■■ ■•--■■•' ■•'■■••- 1 AN APPLICATION.
