COMMERCIAL.
FROM THE LYTTEIiTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Since our last report business in the grain department has undergone no sensible change. A fair amount of trade has passed through hands, biit the inoßt prominent feature is a want of animation. Wheat.—We have not much alteration to note in the value of wheat. We may repeat last week's quotations of 3s 3d .to 3s 4d for good average lots. For choice and seed parcels better prices are obtainable Scene of the millers are running low in stock, and are buying. Oats. —Transactions in this grain have been of the hand to mouth order. Good feed are quoted at 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; milling 2s 8d to 2s 9d. Barley.—Values are stated at 5s 6d to 5s 9d for prime ; inferior to medium, 3s 9d to ss. Potatoes. —The improvement noted in our last has been maintained, and prices have hardened considerably. The demand absorbs all coming forward, but until buyers and sellers come nearer to -each other in their views as to pried, transactions must be limited. Quotations range between 60s to 675. Flour is without change ; a fair trade at £8 to £9, according to brand is being done. Grass Seed.—Beyond an occasional trifling order for ryegrass the market is characterized by absolute stagnation. The enquiry from Australian customers is nil, and until the near approach of our own sowing season their exists little hope of better rates being reached. Dairy Produce.—Butter, lid ,* cheese, 6id; hams and bacon, no alteration. Stocks are bare, and the new cure will not be in the market for some time yet.
