CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.
The following is the report of the Corn Exchange for the week ending Friday evening. May 1 :— Wheat.—There is no change to record in values. Last week's quotations are sustained. Good milling commands 3s 5d to 3s Gd ; interior, to medium, 2s lOd to 3s 2J. Oats.—Business is almost at a standstill, buyers onlyjoperating from hand to mouth. Holders are unwilling to part, excepting at last week's quotations. Good milling samples 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; feed qualities 2s Gd to 2b Bd. Barley.—Business has hardly been so brisk during the week. Brewers and maltsters are now so completely stocked that they are indifferent, and none but the very primest samples meet with any attention from them. On the other hand the market in Melbourne is good, and a fair demand exists for that port. Prime malting samples still command 5s 9d to 6s; inferior to medium ranging from 3s 6d to ss. Grass Seed.—No business doing ; prices nominal. Potatoes.—Rates have a decided upward tendency. . Sales have been made during the week at from £2 _17s 6d to £3 at country stations within six miles of Christchurch. Cheese and Butter.—6d to 6£d for the former, lOd to lid for the latter.
