COMMERCIAL.
FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. We have little alteration to record in the tone of the market during the past week. , Although a fair amount of business can be reported in several lines, the most noticeable feature is the continued want of life. - * Wheat.—For best milling, we quote 3s 3d to 3s sd, and for an extra choice lot, a shade over that figure might be obtained. Average parcels range from 3s to 3s 2d. The demand for chicken wheat is maintained, and lots of this description find ready buyers. Oats are quiet, the demand at the moment being wholly dependant on local consumption. First-class milling is quoted at 2s lid, to 3s, and good feed at 2s 9d to 2s lOd. Barley.—Best malting samples are still quoted at 5s 6d to 6s, and other kinds 4s 6d to 5s 3d. Potatoes are coming into notice, although business is yet meagre. Prices range from 50s to 655, according to condition. Flour.—For the best brands the closing quotations are unaltered, £8 to £9 being paid. Grass Seed.—The enquiry for rye-grass-during the week has been even worse than the preceding, and prices have in consequence weakened. Where sales must be made, we doubt if the quotation could be realised, more especially if the parcel offered was a large on". Clean samples are worth 4s 9d to ss, and good fair lots 4s 3d to 4s 6d. Several medium-sized lines of Cocksfoot have been sold within the last day or so at 50s to 54s per cwt. Dairy Produce.—The price of butter continues about lOd. Cheese is in fair demand at 6d to 6§d. In hams and bacon we have no alteration to report.
