LOCAL MARKETS.
Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on the live stotk market, &c, for the week ending Friday, March 7, as follows:—
Wool, Sheepskins, Hides, and Tallow.— At the usual weekly sale of the above, held yesterday at the Canterbury Wool Stores, 125 bales of wool, 3896 sheepskins, 508 lambskins, 102 bags and packages of butchers' -rough fat and tallow, and 140 oxhides, comprised the catalogue. * Of our entry of wool we succeded in disposing of aboutSO bales, prices ruling for cross-bred, 5d to Bsd per lb ; merino, s|d to B£d; pieces, 2d to f>|d ; locks, £d to 3d per lb. The wool market at present ia in a demoralized and unsettled state, prices suffering in consequence. Best cross-bred sheepskins made 3s 6d to 4s 6d; do, merinos, 3s 6d to 4s 10d. Butcher's crossbred pelts, Is 6d, Is 9d, to 2s 4d, one exceptionally good line reaching the last mentioned figure ; medium to fair, 9d, Is, 1 1 Iα 5d ; inferior, Id to 7d. Best inerino

from Home, does not show the proportionate increase in price week by week which it otherwise should do at thisseason of the year, in consequence of which we yesterday withdrew, for the first time at auction, over 40 lots, most of Which we have since sold privately at fairly satisfactory rates. Butchers' rough fat, best dry well saved, lfd to 2-£ d p-sr lb; inferior, £d, Id, l£d, to 1 *d. Salted ox hides, 3§d; damaged, 2£d. Calfskins, 4d.
