COMMERCIAL.

FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES.

Christchurch, Friday Evening.

GBAIN AND PRODUCE

The grain market this week has been fairly active, both wheat and oats have changed hands freely, the former at a slight advance, while oats have considerably decreased in price, and seem just now almost a drug. Wheat has been sold at 3s 3d for prime samples of tuscan, but we quote good milling sorts 8s to 3s Id, and inferior and light grain at 2s 9d per bushel. Oats are now worth 3s for best milling, and good samples prime feed have been placed at 2s 9d, while others ars quoted at still lower rates." Barley is much in request, but sellers are asking such top prices that few sales have been made. We quote good malting at 5s to 5s 6d. Grass seeds are now in fair demand. Cocksfoot has been placed in wholesale quantities at 6d to 6£d per 1b for well-dressed seed, and there are enquiries for good parcels delivered in Port at the former price. Rye grass is worth 5s to 5s 6d, but there is a disposition on the part of farmers to hold rather then sell at these quotations. Flour remains unchanged at last week's quotations, viz., £8 to £9 per ton, according to brand. Bran and Sharps.—£s to £5 10s. Dairy Produce.—Butter, 9d to lid, for local consumption only ; prime cheese, 7d ; >.r.d hums and bacon, Bd, in cloth, for wellknown and approved brands.
