GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

There has been nothing very special to nTOTree~iffCieTiaffSactionfrurttic T ttjnrweeicr Although a considerable amount of trade can be recorded, the general tone exhibits an absence of life. The market is settling down and prices are steadily approaching to an understood basis. Wheat.—The quotations of Jast week are still current, and sales to a considerable extent have been made. First-class milling is quoted at 3a 2d to 3s 3d; other kinds at 3s. These prices are'thought so low that the chance of the home market has been accepted by growers to a large extent.. Oats —The demand for early lots having been satisfied, the enquiry has subsided. Wβ quote good milling at 3a to 3s Id, And feed 2s 9d to. 3s. Barley.—We quote 4s 6d to 5s for good average and for choice lota 5a 3d to 6s. Potatoes.—Small retail lots have only been touched at £5 to £6. Flour.—A moderate trade is to be noted in this article at £8 to £9, according to brand. Bran and Sharps are quoted at £5 and Sn> 10s respectively. Grass Seed.- -The enquiry for rye grass has not been at all equal to take up the qnantity brought forward during the week. Dealers are indisposed to operate heavily at present rates, preferring to purchase from hand to mouth or as a favourable opportunity presents itself. The quantity coining forward enables them to follow this policy. We quote for first-class farmers' dressed samples of ryegrass 5s to 5s 6d, while for an extra lot a trifle more might be got; sellers as a body, however, hold back, looking for higher rates. Inferior descriptions command 4s 6d to 4s 9d. Cocksfoot—Growers' ideas of value are much above dealers', and consequently business has been extremely limited. The enquiry for this seed in addition this season has not been up to that of former years. We quote 50s to 56s per cwt. Dairy Produce.—Butter: The market for this is almost confined to local purchases, the export enquiry being next to nil. Although quiet, prices are sustained, 9d to 10d is quoted. • Cheese is quoted at6£d.
