OUR VALENTINE.

Though we're late a day or so, Dearest Public, you, we know, For the sake of " Auld Lang Syne," Will not scorn onr Valentine. Two to three years now have gone Since this worthy sheet was born. Troth! our friendship must bo strong To have lasted out so .long. , Now and then we've had a " .spat"— Lovers must and will have that. • Duty sometimes makes us scold ; Zeal may make us over-bold. . • But we always have been true To at least apart of you.

"Tie the custom of the day Pretty compliments to pay. What, dear Public, shall we say? You are constant—as the wind ; Wisdom (of the long-eared kind) Sits upon jour brow of brass ; Staunch your promise is—as glass ; Gratitude is yours—as deep As the watchful weasel's sleep ; To the weak you are as kind As.the tiger to. the hind ; To the strong you are as mild As the mother to her child.

But, why all your virtues tell— Sweetheart, don't we know them well? Know them all ? Ah, there's the rob— No, we can't say that, dear Pub. Every week and every day Home new trait of yours display ; Some Protean " lightning change " That is charming as 'tis strange. No one knows what you'll do next, So, of course, we pause perplexed, When the season seems to say : " Swear you'll love her every day." Still, if our esteem you prize— Buy, subscribe, and advertise.
