ODDFELLOWS' FETE AT LITTLE RIVER.
Wednesday, the 12th inst., being the anniversary of the institution of the Oddfellows at Little River, the occasion was celebrated by the members of the Lodge walking in procession. This was followed by sports, for which upwards of £8 were collected for prizes. These were held in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Bro C. Hornil'low.
Soon after two o'clock, the procession arrived on the ground, when three hearty cheers were given for the success of the Loyal Dawn of Hope Lodge. Then commenced the sports. Bro G. W. Joblin officiated as treasurer, Bros Greenland and Westropp, handicappers ; Bro John Reynolds, starter; and Bro James Reynolds, judge.
The various events, which were well contested, are as follows:—
I Oddfellows' Race, 250 yds—First prize, 7s 6d, Bro Joseph Reynolds ; second, ss, Bro G. Robinson ; third, 2s 6d,, Bro Smart. Men's Handicap Race, 100 • yds, open l — First prize, 4s, Joseph Reynolds; second, 2s, G-. Robinson. - . Boys' Race, under 16, 220 yds—First prize, 4s, Malm ; second, 2s, Nelson. Men's Running High Jump—First prize, 4s, G. Robinson, 4ft sin ; second, 2s, H. Radford, 4ft 4in. Maori Race, 300 yds—First prize, 7s 6d, J. Robert; second, ss, Young Tamutu Jack. Men's Standing High Jump—First prize, ss, G. Robinson ; second, 2s, Joseplr Reynolds. Men's Open Handicap Race, 440 yds— First prize, 10s, J. Radford ; second, ss, H. Reynolds; third, 2s 6d, New' Chum. The New Chura came in first, bat having canoned during the race, <vas. disqualified, and awarded third prize only. Men's Running Long Jump—First prize, 4s, Joseph Reynolds, 15ft; second, 2s, H. Radford, 14ft Gin. G. Robinson and New Chum also competed. Boys' Race Handicap, under 14, 200 yds—First prize, 4s, Gilbert Tyson ; second, 2s, Lawrence Reynolds. Handicap Oddfellows' Race, 250 yds— First prize, 10a, Bro J. Belcher; second, 7s 6d, Bro H. Reynolds ; third, ss, Bro G. Robinson.
Women's Race. 100 yds—First prize, 7s 6d, Mrs J. Radford ; second, sa, Mrs - L. Jacobsen. Mesdames Nelson, Homiblow, and Hastier also ran.
This concluded the sports,
At six o'clock the Lodge assembled at Olphert'a Hotel to partake of a dinner, which was of a most satisfying character, consisting of viands excellent and abundant.
Bro L. Jacobsen, P.N.tr., occupied the chair, and Bro H. Reynolds, V.G-., the vicechair. Reynolds, Groeultutd, Horniblow, and Prince.
A ball held at the schoolroom constituted the finale of the celebration.
