COMMERCIAL.

FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

Very little has been doing during the week, and there is not much prospect of the initation of new business to any extent untill the deliveries of grain have fairly set in. Harvest operations have been proceeding satisfactorily, the weather, fortunately up to the present time, having been everythat could be desired.

Wheat.—At the moment it ia difficult to say what are the exact market rates. Several lots of rather a pinched look have passed into the millers' hands at 3s. Several parcels of fine wheat have also been taken by the same buyers at 3s 3d to 3s 4d. For most of the wheat now offering, however, the growers are asking 3s 9d, but we cannot record any sales at that price. In old wheat we note the of several small lots by millers, for mixing, at 3s 9d.

Oats have been offering in quantity, and sales have been made at 3s for feed, and 3s 2d to 3s 3d for milling sorts.

Barley.—The prices sought by growers check purchases. Several lines have beeti bought for local use at ss. Flour.—Trade parcels are being executed at the old quotation of £9 to £10. Forward contracts of new have been made at considerably less money.

Grass Seed.—Bye grass is corning in to the market in such quantity that traders are not so inclined to operate. The crop i« turning ont much better than was anticipated, and consequently some of the iargeKt dealers are holding off until rates become easier. Fairly dressed samples re quoted at 4s 6d to ss, and first class, 5s 6d to 6s.

Dairy Produce.—Butter and cheese are unaltered ; the enquiry is quiet.
