ROBINSON'S BAY.

A public meeting of householders was held in the Robinson's Bay School on Monday, the 27th of January, 1879, at 7 o'clock, for the purpose of receiving a report and balance-sheet of the School Committee, and electing a new committee for the ensuing year. The attendance was limited. On the motion of Mr S. Curry, Mr W. Whitfield was called to the chair.

The Chairman presented the balancesheet duly audited by Mr J. Duxbury, and found correct, and read the report of the outgoing committee. In the report the committee stated that they had held twelve meetings during the past year, that the school appeared to be well conducted and the children improving satisfactorily. They complained o£ the irregular attendance of many of the children, some not making half, and some not a quarter of their full time. They had resolved to bring the eumpulspryl clauses, of the Act into force, but, as the law stands at present, they had not been able to increase the attendance thereby. . They reported that the master (Mr Victor) had successfully passed his examination, and he appeared to have his heart in bis work. The results, of the late examination were consideied satisfactory, fifty per cent of the children presented for examination having passed. Certain necessary works were enumerated as having been executed, and others were remitted to the incoming committee. The number of -'.children on the rolls last year was 43, with an average attendance of 23. From various,causes, the number at present oh the roll had been reduced to, 26. The statement of accounts showed— £20212s 5d ; expenditure,. £198' 9s 12di j leaving a balance. in hand of £4 3s 3d. Counting the value of,books in stock, and amounts owing for' the , same, the credit balance would be brought up to £13 5s Bd. •" The report and balance-sheet were considered satisfactory. - "• ■■■ - '
